Hyper Knife, a new Korean medical thriller on Disney+, emerges as the company’s most-viewed Korean premiere globally this year.

Debuting with two episodes on March 19, the series reached this achievement in less than two weeks after its release date. The ranking is based on only seven days of streaming data, with viewership predominantly in the Asia-Pacific region.

The thriller follows a genius neurosurgeon who performs illegal surgeries. Stripped of her medical license, she resorts to performing procedures in secret, grappling with ethically questionable operations and their moral consequences. When she crosses paths with her former mentor who ruined her professional career, a battle of power and revenge ensues.

The series stars Park Eun-bin who is known for her work in Extraordinary Attorney Woo and The King’s Affection. She not only received praise for her performances in her home country of South Korea, but from around the world, which is not an easy feat.

Her co-star, Sul Kyung-gu, is also a well-known actor. He established himself through the films Memoir of a Murderer and Oasis.

Hyper Knife signifies a high for Korean dramas on Disney+. Ever since the platform officially launched in South Korea in November 2021, it has steadily increased its K-drama content to gain greater South Korean viewership. This includes both licensed and original titles. For example, Hyper Knife is a Hulu Original, which is owned by Disney

Some of the most popular K-drama releases on Disney+ have been Connect, Shadow Detective, and Snowdrop.

As far as K-drama releases go, Disney+ does not plan on stopping anytime soon. Hyper Knife was just one of the series that they planned on dropping this year, however several more are anticipated. Upcoming titles include Nine Puzzles, a dark crime mystery starring Kim Da-mi and Son Suk-ku; a treasure-hunting adventure titled Low Life with Ryu Seung-ryong; and international conspiracy thriller Tempest featuring both Hollywood and Korean talent.

These projects, along with Hyper Knife, will be available for streaming on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu in the U.S.
