The Housemaid, a film adaptation of the popular Freida McFadden novel, will release later this year.

The Housemaid debuted its first trailer at CinemaCon, as Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar attended the showing. Adapted by Rebecca Sonnenshine and produced by Paul Feig, the film is based on Freida McFadden’s popular novel of the same name.

The story follows Wilhelmina “Millie” Calloway, a housemaid with a dark past who is looking for a fresh start. She’s hired by Nina Winchester and her husband, Andrew. While their family seems perfect on the outside, they’re dealing with problems of their own that may put Millie in danger.

Sweeney is set to portray Millie, while Seyfried embodies as Nina and Sklenar as Andrew. At the event, Sweeney described how much she was captivated by The Housemaid series.

“I love when there’s so much unexpected twists and turns and the characters are flawed and you love them at the same time,” she stated. “You question your own morals.”

Seyfried highlighted how different this task was compared to others she’s had, noting how it pushed her harder than any other role.

“I got to go to places that I never expected to go,” Seyfried stated. “We reached places that I’ve never been able to as an actor.”

Sweeney is known for several major projects, including Euphoria, where she stars alongside Jacob Elordi, Zendaya, and others. She also starred in the romantic comedy, Anyone But You, with Twisters actor Glen Powell. Seyfried is best known for her roles in popular films such as Mamma Mia! and Les Misérables.

Since the release of The Housemaid, McFadden has published numerous novels within the same universe: The Housemaid’s Secret, The Housemaid’s Wedding, and The Housemaid is Watching.

Producers of the movie include Todd Lieberman, Feig, Laura Fischer, and Carly Kleinbart Elter. The highly-anticipated film is set to release to theaters on December 25. The trailer is not yet available for public viewing.
