David Schwimmer Didn’t Have Greatest Response to Friends Song

David Schwimmer didn’t have the best reaction to the Friends theme song.

During a guest appearance on Matt Lucas and David Williams’ Making a Scene podcast, Schwimmer revealed he had enough of the iconic theme song, “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts.

“I mean, I just had heard it so many times,” the actor stated. Even after the sitcom ended in 2004, Schwimmer revealed the song kept playing everywhere he went. “Any time you’d go on a show or a talk show or an interview, that would be your intro song,” he shared. “So I just didn’t have the greatest response to it.”

Additionally, Schwimmer confirmed he never watched the show. “I never watched the show after we finished it,” the Goosebumps star stated. “For me, it’s like, I did it, I’m moving on. I don’t really go back and revisit,” he shared.

Meanwhile, the actor admitted that he only started re-watching it because his daughter Cleo “discovered it around age 9 or something. I’d be making breakfast or whatever and I’d hear my kid’s laughter. My whole relationship to that song and to the show changed.” The Friends star jokingly stated, “it is different when you don’t force a child to watch your work.”

The iconic sitcom aired in 1994, showcasing the lives of six unique friends living together in New York City. Besides Schwimmer, the comedy starred Jennifer Aniston, Matt Leblanc, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and the late Matthew Perry. The comedy dives deep into relationships, friendships and conflict that arises among the friend group.

“Meanwhile, Aniston reflected on her time on the series, “It was just magic. Nothing was not exciting. And it’s still exciting, but we’ve had more experiences. We’ve learned more lessons. There’s a little more behind us.”

Last year, the show celebrated 30 years since its first episode. Friends can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video and Max.
