Rising punk-pop artist Knox has officially released his long-awaited debut album, Going Going Gone. This bold collection encompasses his signature sound while stepping outside the box lyrically and melodically, marking the start of what promises to be an exceptional journey.

Coming to us from Nashville, the native, though excited about the project, joked he was “absolutely terrified.” “It’s the debut album, this is 15 songs, and it’s either good or it’s not,” he stated.

In 2023, the artist released two EPs, How to Lose a Girl in Seven Songs and I’m So Good at Being Alone, which featured his breakout hit “Not the 1975.” Since then, he’s worked on the album for nearly 2.5 years, exploring themes of relationships — current and post-relationship— as well as themes of self-realization in tracks like “Headfirst.”

While penning the album with one of his best friends, Spencer Jordan, he mentioned they took the “storytelling approach,” focusing on world-building and exploring a more mature tone while staying true to his All-American Rejects-esque sound.

“I felt like the first two EPs, I was in this box. On this album, it was like ‘How do we make this box bigger? How do we push the boundaries on both sides, whether it was going harder rock or going full-blown pop songs?”

He spoke about the challenging process of creating the album and assembling a cohesive body of work that flows seamlessly from start to finish. As a result, singles like “Treadmill,” along with a few other tracks, didn’t make the final cut and now sit unreleased in the vault.

When asked if they would ever be released, he told us, “I know I’m supposed to be here promoting Going Going Gone, but I don’t know if it’s going to be a deluxe album or I’ve started album number two but I feel like the songs just keep getting better.”

‘Going Going Gone’ Tour

Accompanying the album is Knox’s headlining “Going Going Gone” tour, which kicks off in Washington, D.C., on April 12 (already sold out) and runs through May 10, ending in Nashville (also sold out).

Evidently excited, he spoke about previous performances that felt more lowkey, “just me on stage singing the songs.” But this time he’s promising, “A real show. We have the best of the best people putting this thing together.”

2024 was Knox’s breakout year with his song “Not the 1975” taking over the airwaves and social algorithms. It’s also where we met the singer in Dumbo park at the MTV VMA Block Party, who harnessed the crowd’s energy and kept them singing and jumping around his entire set.

As he embarks on this new chapter, it is clear this is only the beginning, but he can’t help but be grateful for the journey thus far.

“I have the coolest job in the whole world. Anybody that isn’t happy to do this I think is crazy. It’s so much fun and there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. I’m going to keep showing up with a smile on my face and see where it takes me.”
