A Look Into Amazon MGM New Plans for James Bond
The James Bond franchise’s new owners, Amazon MGM, announced exciting plans for the beloved superspy at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 2.
“We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world alongside Amy [Pascal] and David [Heyman],” studio executives Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll stated during their panel.
Earlier this year, longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli shocked fans by stepping back from the beloved film series and turning creative control over to Amazon MGM. The three parties formed a joint venture to house the intellectual property rights, allowing all three to remain co-owners of the property. On March 26, Pascal and Heyman were called on to produce the next 007 film.
“They’re both in London getting started and couldn’t be here tonight, but we wanted to thank them for what we know to make an incredible partnership,” Valenti and Kroll added.
Due to Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM in 2021, the company gained the rights to develop all James Bond films but received only half ownership and became a passive production partner. There has been endless speculation about the next steps since Daniel Craig’s final appearance as the superspy in No Time to Die (2021). Given Pascal and Heyman’s new roles that could possibly happen soon.
“James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema,” Pascal and Heyman proclaimed in a statement. “We are humbled to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, who made so many extraordinary films, and honored and excited to keep the spirit of Bond very much alive as he embarks on his next adventure.”
Who Will Amazon MGM Cast as The Next James Bond?
The real question on most fans’ minds is who will portray agent 007 in the newest installment. Some claim that Amazon MGM is targeting a younger actor to take the role, leading them to believe Tom Holland, Leo Woodall, or Paul Mescal will potentially portray the super spy.
According to @TheSun and actor Daniel Mays, Amazon is looking for a very young actor to play the next James Bond, in a story set in the 1950s or 60s.
