Tom Cruise to Make Big Return to Cannes Film Festival
Tom Cruise will attend the Cannes Film Festival for the third time in his career, following the premiere of Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning.
The eighth installment of Mission: Impossible will be presented out of competition on May 14 at the Grand Théâtre Lumière. Cruise will attend alongside director, producer, and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie and the rest of the cast.
“After almost three decades of thrills, stunts and intrigue, The Final Reckoning delivers an unforgettable cinematic experience,” the press release stated. “Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, who he has portrayed since the beginning of the franchise in 1996, and his IMF team ask you to trust them one last time.”
Suspicion of the festival premiere first arose in February when it was leaked that the film was considering debuting there.
The film is directed by McQuarrie, and he and the Top Gun: Maverick actor serve as its producers. McQuarrie also co-wrote the script with Erik Jendresen. The cast includes Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Henry Czerney, Mariela Garriga, Pom Klementieff, and Angela Bassett.

The Jerry Maguire star’s first appearance at the festival was for the premiere of Ron Howard’s Far and Away in 1992. His next appearance wasn’t until 2022, where he attended for the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick. He also received the Palme d’or honor at that ceremony.
Cruise traveled to Las Vegas for CinemaCon where a sneak peak of the Mission: Impossible film was shown, and where his Top Gun co-star Val Kilmer was honored after his recent passing.
The Cannes Film Festival begins on May 13 and runs until May 24. The full lineup of films set to appear at the event will be released this Thursday.
The Paramount Pictures film will hit theaters in the United States on May 23. It will be released in France two days earlier, on May 21.
