A First for Ken

James is now the first professional male athlete to have his likeness captured as a Ken doll. This marks a significant moment in the toy industry’s representation evolution. Last year, Mattel introduced a lineup of Barbie dolls inspired by female athletes, including tennis legend Venus Williams. The introduction of the athlete as a Ken doll continues the company’s effort to reflect real-world heroes who inspire and uplift.

Reflecting on the partnership, James shared how important role models were in his youth and how necessary it is to continue that legacy for today’s children. “Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to,” he stated.

Style Meets Story

The LeBron Ken doll showcases his style and story. Dressed in a blue-and-white letterman’s jacket with the initials “LJ,” as well as his signature number 23, and patches representing Ohio and his crown symbol. The doll also wears sunglasses, headphones, Nike sneakers, and a shirt that reads “We Are Family,” Representing the LeBron James Family Foundation. The back of the jacket reads, “Just a kid from Akron,” a phrase James has been popular for years. The doll also includes a fanny pack and an “I Promise” wristband, referencing his educational initiative.

In a video shared on social media, James reacted with excitement as he viewed the doll for the first time, describing it as “dope.” He joked that the doll could use “a little lifting” but praised its overall look and vibe.

Mattel’s Krista Berger mentioned how the doll honors LeBron’s role as a global icon and a mentor. “We are excited to bring fans a new presentation of Ken.”

The LeBron Ken doll will retail for $75, the doll officially goes on sale Monday.
