Met Gala: The Best Looks of All Time
The Met Gala occurs annually on the first Monday of May, with this year’s being held on May 5.
The Met Gala
The Met Gala has produced looks that have transcended fashion boundaries, creating jaw-dropping moments as celebrities walk the red carpet.
The gala is an annual fashion charity and fundraiser that supports The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Each year, the biggest names in pop culture are invited to the museum and tasked with manufacturing unique, unforgettable looks in alignment with the ceremony’s theme. Every theme is meant to inspire innovation within the fashion industry.
The event also coincides with the institute’s annual fashion exhibit, which aligns with the ceremony’s theme.
Over the years, The Met Gala has seen stars such as Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Zendaya, Billie Eilish, Anne Hathaway, Diana Ross, and more partner with the biggest houses of fashion like Versace, Givenchy, Tom Ford, Dior, and others.
This Year’s Ceremony
This year’s theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It is inspired by a novel written by Monica L. Miller, entitled Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The museum’s goal is to showcase the evolution of Black dandy throughout history using garments, accessories, paintings, photos, drawings, and more.
“Every year, The Met Gala brings together cultural figures and style icons from across a wide array of fields to celebrate and support art and fashion,” Max Hollein, the museum’s Marina Kellen French Director and Chief Executive Officer, stated in a press release. “This spring’s event will mark the opening of the exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, a profoundly scholarly show centering an important legacy of Black-led sartorial innovation and creative expression that continues to inspire and shape our world today.”

There are several co-chairs for the upcoming celebration, including Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James as the honorary chair.
A host committee will also be brought back to The Met Gala, with André 3000, Jordan Casteel, Doechii, Dapper Dan, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Edward Enninful, Ayo Edebiri, Jeremy O. Harris, Rashid Johnson, Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Janelle Monaé, Audra McDonald, Jeremy Pope, Angel Reese, Sha’Carri Richardson, Usher, Tyla, and Kara Walker serving for the committee.
