Mayfair Witches Renewed for New Season 3 Set in Salem
Mayfair Witches has been renewed for a third season at AMC, and that’s not all. Anne Rice’s fantasy series will also get a new showrunner and a new setting for the series.
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is a supernatural gothic horror drama created by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford. The series is an adaptation of author Anne Rice’s trilogy, The Lives of Mayfair Witches; it is part of AMC’s “Immortal Universe” along with Interview with a Vampire.
The story follows neurosurgeon Dr. Rowan Fielding (Alexandria Daddario), who, after her mother’s death, learns she is an heiress to the Mayfair family, a powerful dynasty of Witches haunted by many spirits, including Lasher (Jack Huston), who has been bound to the Mayfair family for centuries.
Season 2 of Mayfair Witches premiered on January 5 this year and aired its season finale on March 2.
The series’ first two seasons have been set in New Orleans, much like the book. However, season 3 will see the witches of Mayfair head to the most pivotal place for all witches: Salem, Massachusetts, and the historical site of the Salem Witch Trials.

The series has been known to play fast and loose with its source material, but this might be one of its most significant changes yet, seeing as Salem is not all that pivotal in the original trilogy; they don’t go there and hardly ever mention it.
But it’s not only a location change; members of the creative team will also be changing or being added to it. Television writer Thomas Schnauz, who has been part of iconic thriller series such as The X-Files, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul, will join Spalding as co-showrunner of season 3.
“I am thrilled to welcome Thomas Schnauz to our team for the third season of Mayfair Witches,” Spalding told Variety, “A contemporary twist on the Salem story, it promises to be our most delicious yet.”
While there are no definite release dates in sight for season 3 of Mayfair Witches. Considering the network only just finished airing season 2, the series will likely stick to its pattern if otherwise interrupted, meaning expect to see the witches return at the earliest in January of next year.
