Lady Gaga Amazes Her Monsters With Dark, Powerful Performance
Lady Gaga headlined Coachella on Friday, April 11, with other performances from GloRilla, Benson Boone, Tyla, and more.
Lady Gaga returned to her dark pop roots as she amazed her fans with a jaw-dropping performance at Coachella.
Gaga’s performance, titled The Art Of Personal Chaos, included four acts: Of Velvet and Vice, And She Fell Into a Gothic Dream, The Beautiful Nightmare That Knows Her Name, and To Wake Her Is To Lose Her. It was closed with the grand finale, Eternal Aria Of the Monster Heart.
The set opened with two variations of Gaga on screens at each end of the stage. Looking at each other, they stated, “This is the manifesto of mayhem.”
Act I, Of Velvet and Vice, began with a throwback as Gaga emerged wearing a black bob and performed “Bloody Mary” from Born This Way. A collection of songs off of her newest project, MAYHEM, followed, including “Abracadabra,” “Judas,” and “Garden of Eden,” which she performed on the guitar. She concluded the first act with an intricate performance of “Poker Face,” where old Gaga faced off against new Gaga. New Gaga was victorious, which led right into Act II.

In Act II, And She Fell Into a Gothic Dream, blonde Gaga took the stage in an outfit reminiscent of the 2009 Video Music Awards. She opened the act with “Perfect Celebrity,” followed by “Disease,” and a stripped-down version of “Paparazzi.”
Gesaffelstein, who worked with the “Applause” singer on MAYHEM, joined her on stage for Act III, The Beautiful Nightmare That Knows Her Name. They began with “Killah” and transitioned into “Zombieboy,” where Gaga danced with a life-sized skeleton. She then sang a shortened version of “Die With A Smile,” her hit single with Bruno Mars, and ended the act with “How Bad Do U Want Me.”

In the final act, To Wake Her Is To Lose Her, Gaga returned to the black bob. She told the crowd, “You are who you choose to be and always will be.” Gaga opened Act IV with “Born This Way.” The second song was “Shallow,” which she performed on the piano from A Star Is Born. The “Telephone” singer starred in the film alongside Bradley Cooper. She concluded the act with “Vanish Into You,” singing while holding hands with her fans as she disappeared from the stage.
However, she wasn’t done yet. Minutes later, she reemerged for the finale, Eternal Aria Of the Monster Heart. Gaga told the fans, “We are monsters, and monsters never die.” She sang “Bad Romance,” which marked the ending of her headlining performance.

The last time Gaga headlined Coachella was in 2017 when she replaced Beyoncé after the “Single Ladies” artist announced her pregnancy.
Gaga’s first major project of the year was her performance with Mars at the Grammys. The pair won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Die With A Smile.” She released her latest album, MAYHEM, a month later. She then appeared on Saturday Night Live as a host and performer. She’s about to embark on “The MAYHEM Ball Tour,” which kicks off on July 16 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
