Lily James will star and produce the Australian thriller, Photo Booth, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film discusses people’s difficult choices regarding their family’s future and careers, exploring one’s devotion to love alongside unrelenting ambition.

Cathy Konrad and her Tree Line Films, Gala Gordon’s Parodos Productions, Australian-based Carver, sibling directors Spencer and Lloyd Harvey, film producers Sarah Shaw, Anna McLish, and James are working together to bring this vision to life. Konrad is known for Girl Interrupted and Walk the Line, and McLish is recognized for Relic and Run Rabbit Run

The full synopsis reads: “Jean (James), a renowned performance artist at the height of her career, has always chosen ambition over family. But after another devastating setback in her struggle to have a child with her artist husband Ben, their carefully curated life and marriage begin to fracture. When Ben confesses to a drunken one-night stand with Millie (Raffey Cassidy) – a fragile, rootless young woman now unexpectedly pregnant —  Jean makes a radical and unorthodox choice: she invites Millie into their home, offering financial support in exchange for the baby.”

“Within 10 minutes of sitting down with the script for Photo Booth, my mind was already turning — I wanted to be on the set filming this, and help in any way to get this project off the ground,” Konrad conveyed. “It’s a bold narrative within a complete and authentic package. They trust their characters, and with that the story unfolds naturally, but with unexpected twists and turns.”

Photo Booth is the story we needed to tell, one deeply rooted in the discussion of legacy and the choices that define us,” Spencer and Lloyd Harvey expressed in a statement. “As siblings and filmmakers, we’ve always been drawn to emotionally complex, character-driven stories that sit at the intersection of self-expression and identity. This film is deeply personal, and having the incredible Lily James as our fearless Jean, we know it will be electric. We can’t wait for the world to see what she does.”

Photo Booth will start principal photography this October in Australia and London. The release date is still unknown.
