Itzy Announces New EP Girls Will Be Girls
Itzy, a beloved K-pop girl group, is set to return with its upcoming EP, Girls Will Be Girls, slated for release on June 9.
This comeback marks nearly eight months since their previous EP, Gold, captivated fans in October 2024. The group announced the EP on May 11 and released an almost seven-minute cinematic album trailer that has already sparked widespread anticipation.
The Story Behind the Trailer
The album trailer sets a dramatic tone with its storytelling narrative and moody visuals. The video opens with Ryujin sitting alone in a hospital waiting room before being brought back to receive X-rays.
The scene cuts to a diner where the members gather to process the shocking results: Ryujin has no heartbeat. Confused and worried, the group tries to revive her spirit through symbolic acts, such as playing tennis, sharing food, and singing karaoke. Despite their efforts, Ryujin becomes an inflatable balloon version of herself, a visual metaphor for her emotional emptiness.
The trailer then transitions to a surreal, nighttime street scene where the members perform an expressive contemporary dance. The choreography blends elegance with subdued synchronization, reflecting both despair and hope.
As the haunting yet dreamy soundscape intensifies, featuring breathy and delicate vocals, Ryujin’s heart finally bursts from her chest, and she collapses. The final shot depicts her rebirth: glowing, dressed in white, and serene. This line follows the scene, “The heart starts pounding again. Now, they’ll become girls once more.”
The Countdown Begins
Alongside the trailer, Itzy unveiled a detailed promotional schedule shared via their official X account. Throughout May and June, fans can look forward to a rollout of content including the track list, concept photos, album spoilers, music video teasers, and a live countdown event leading up to the EP’s release.

Songs That Shaped Itzy’s Legacy
Since their debut in 2019, Itzy has delivered numerous hit songs, each contributing to their rise as one of K-pop’s most dynamic girl groups. Their debut track “Dalla Dalla” set the tone for their identity with a genre-blending sound and lyrics promoting self-love and confidence.
The follow-up “Wannabe” reinforced this image with its iconic shoulder dance and a message of individuality, helping the group go viral internationally. Their 2020 hit “Not Shy” introduced romantic themes while keeping their bold energy intact, while “LOCO” and “Cheshire” showcased the group’s versatility, mixing emotional depth with intense performance energy.
What This Era Means for Itzy
These standout tracks have helped shape Itzy’s identity: fearless, experimental, and unapologetically themselves. Now, with Girls Will Be Girls, the group is ready to build on that legacy with an even deeper, more narrative-driven concept.
