New Brad Pitt Film Is Racing to Theaters This Summer
F1 is a high racing drama starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, directed by Joseph Kosinski.
The film is inspired by the Netflix phenomenon Drive to Survive after Kosinski saw Formula One as the perfect blend of speed, rivalry, and emotion. Though Hollywood was quick to support the project, especially with Pitt and Apple on board, convincing Formula One was another story.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recalled similar challenges faced by the Navy for Top Gun. The F1 team feared that there would be misrepresentation, but after nearly a year of negotiations and meetings with individual teams, they were won over. What followed was special access to building garages, filming during real Grand Prix weekends, and a look into team briefings.

Real Speed, Real Stakes
To capture the driver’s experience, Kosinski and his team developed compact, high-quality IMAX cameras specially engineered for the delicate F1 frames. With guidance from seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, they placed cameras directly inside cars driven by Pitt and Idris going at speeds of up to 180 mph.
“When Lewis saw the footage and said, ‘It looks fast,’ I knew we had it,” Kosinski stated.
The Brad Pitt Effect
Brad Pitt takes the wheel as Sonny Hayes, a former racing star who left the track behind—until fate steers him back. When his former teammate, now a team owner portrayed by Javier Bardem, comes calling with a desperate pitch to save his struggling crew, Hayes agrees to suit up for one final lap. What follows is a high-octane comeback story packed with heart, grit, and pulse-pounding speed, as Hayes races not just for victory, but for redemption.
Damson Idris brings fresh energy to the screen as the talented young protégé, raising the stakes and the excitement. In a headline-grabbing promotional moment, Idris turned heads at this year’s Met Gala by arriving in a bold racing suit—only to dramatically tear it off on the red carpet, igniting even more buzz around the film’s release.
