Three years after her debut, Riri Williams is back at school. Take a look at the official trailer for Marvel Television’s next series, Ironheart, starring Dominique Thorne.

With Marvel Entertainment still riding the success of Thunderbolts*, the company is giving fans a look at its next project, which will focus on a character who made her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Dominique Thorne portrays Riri Williams, and this will be her first leading role in her career. Her other film credits include supporting characters in If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas and the Black Messiah.

After the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, young genius Riri Williams returns to MIT with new ideas for building her suit of armor, meant to equal that of Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit.

Upon her return to Chicago, she is approached by Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos), aka The Hood. He offers her “the tools” to build her armor, but it will come at a cost. The trailer implies that the cost is aiding Parker and others in some crime sprees.

Screenwriter Chinaka Hodge created the Ironheart series for Disney+. Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes will each direct three of the six episodes in the series’s first season.

Director Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Black Panther and Sinners, serves as an executive producer through his production company, Proximity Media. Along with, as usual, Marvel Studios.

Ironheart will premiere its first episode and conclude Phase 5 of the MCU, with Fantastic Four: First Steps opening Phase 6.

Joining Thorne and Ramos for all six episodes includes Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Lyric Ross as Riri’s best friend Natalie Washington, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Manny Montana as Cousin John, Shea Coulee as Slug, and Anji White as Riri’s mother, Ronnie.

Ironheart releases at a pivotal time for Marvel Television, as a recent upheaval of Marvel’s yearly output plan will take effect. This series stands on the precipice of this change.

The formal introduction of Riri Williams is another step towards introducing the Young Avengers into the MCU. That team will hopefully include Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke), Kamala Khan/Miss Marvel (Iman Vellani), and Kate Bishop/Hawkeye.

Ironheart premieres June 24 on Disney+.
