“We are so pleased to announce details for the eighth annual New York Music Month, where New Yorkers will have access to over 50 free events throughout the city designed to entertain and educate on the state of the local and global music community,” expressed Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, Pat Swinney Kaufman. “Per usual, the month kicks off with our flagship Music Conference, which offers a more robust schedule than ever before. Congratulations to MOME’s team leader on the New York Music Month initiative, Shira Gans, on curating the month of events for all New Yorkers to enjoy!”
The month officially begins with the annual NYMM Conference, presented in partnership with the NYU Steinhardt Music Business Program, returning to the NYU Skirball Center on June 3. The event features 40 experts exploring the top trends and topics defining the music industry. Some highlighted speakers include Executive Music Editor of Variety Jem Aswad, President of Beggars Group US Nabil Ayers, and Vice President of Music Strategy at MIDiA Research Tatiana Cirisano.
Following the conference, NYMM begins its Talks program, which consists of free expert-led panels, workshops, and masterclasses focused on industry trends, key issues shaping the music industry, and artistic and professional development. This year will feature 36 events, including sessions on streaming fraud (Mintz Levin & Pryor Cashman), music tech investing (Water & Music), artist merchandise strategies (Merch Cat), vocal training (Abiah Institute of the Arts), marketing for artists (Empire), and making it as an artist (Ms. Mary’s Music, Inc.). The program will also feature conversations with music legends such as Young Guru and Anthony Cruz (Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment), and Neil Giraldo (Artist for Artist).
In addition, NYMM offers free concerts through the Performance Program. This year, it will consist of 18 performances across the city, highlighting a wide range of live music experiences and collaborations. This includes the launch of Radio City, a new series created by co-sign that celebrates New York’s independent, non-commercial radio stations. Additional performance highlights include World Wide Playdate, presented by Divinity Roxx, and Young Masters, presented by The Office Performing Arts + Film, featuring two-time Latin Grammy winner Ella Bric and NPR Tiny Desk Contest winner Linda Diaz.
NYMM asserts, “MOME’s mission is to support NYC’s creative economy and ensure it’s accessible to all. The city’s creative industries—including music, film, television, digital games, publishing, and theater—generate over 440,000 jobs and $150 billion in annual economic impact. They’re not just economic engines—they’re the soul of the city.”
