Opinion: Selena Gomez x Oreo New Taste Test Review
As summer approached, multi-talented star Selena Gomez announced her collaboration with Oreo to release a limited-edition cookie. As someone who enjoys the taste of Oreos and admires Gomez’s work, my interest was piqued.
Although I don’t actively seek out Oreos, I still enjoy eating them occasionally, and it is one of my favorite ice cream flavors. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to check this off my to-do list – until my most recent trip to the grocery store. While browsing the aisles, my man pulled a maroon-colored box with “Oreo Selena Gomez” written in gold from the shelves. After three months, this was finally my chance to try it myself. So, we paid for it and headed home.
What is Selena Gomez x Oreo Collab?
In May, the pop star, actress, beauty founder, and now cookie maker announced that she and Oreos were teaming up to create a flavor close to her heart: horchata.
“Making my own OREO cookie was a lot of fun. I grew up loving them, so being able to be a part of the process was a full-circle moment,” Gomez stated in a press release. “I wanted to find a way for it to feel comforting and have a bit of nostalgia from my childhood. The cinnamon flavor gives it this horchata feel, and I’m excited for my fans to try it.”
The flavors aim to mimic her favorite Mexican beverage: a sweet and spicy cinnamon blend. The first layer is topped with a cinnamon and chocolate layer, and below a sweet condensed milk creme with sugar sandwiched between two round chocolate wafers. Each cookie is adorned with one of six patterns: her signature, her fan base, “Selenators,” written around a treble clef music note, a bass clef music note, a flaming heart, a musical heart, and headphones.
The Taste Test
I peeled open my wrapper, where I received the music heart and the bass clef. Then, I pulled apart both of my Oreos to reveal the inside. Both matched the treat’s description: a cinnamon-vanilla layer on top and a chocolate cinnamon layer at the bottom. So far, everything seemed to match the description.
As I took a bite, the sweet and spicy mix filled my mouth, every taste a perfect combination of these two flavors. The cinnamon complemented the sweet vanilla cream and chocolate flavors, adding a warmth of goodness. With every Oreo I consumed, the more I savored the rich cinnamon flavor.
Would I Purchase This Again?
As stated in the intro, I don’t typically buy Oreos. However, I will purchase this product if I have a hankering for it. If you’re someone who loves cinnamon, this would be up your alley. You can grab yours on Amazon.
