Krispy Kreme New Harry Potter Donut Collab Is Pure Magic

Krispy Kreme released its Back to Hogwarts Collection, an enchanting donut collaboration, just in time for fall. For more than two decades, Harry Potter has been a childhood staple, bringing magic and wonder into people’s lives.

After seeing a post on my social media, the whimsical donuts and the iced coffee caught my eye. Although I was late to the bandwagon, I cashed in my digital gift card, placed my order, and trekked on a trip to the only Krispy Kreme in my area. Unlike the Dubai Chocolate Brownie from Crumbl Cookies, my journey was simple, and I was able to pick up my order promptly. 

What is the Krispy Kreme x Harry Potter collab?

Four days before the donut company released these special treats, they announced their intention to recreate their own magical flavors. 

“We’re channeling the beloved magic of Harry Potter and the Houses of Hogwarts for a collection that is truly bewitching,” Alison Holder, Chief Brand and Product Officer for Krispy Kreme, stated in a press release. “But the magic is fleeting, and so are these doughnuts, so don’t miss your chance to try them!”

This collaboration brings the four Houses of Hogwarts to life through their own flavored donuts topped with their renowned crest crafted from fondant:

Gryffindor: an unglazed donut topped with red icing, Biscoff cookie crumble, and a drizzle of yellow icing filled with cookie butter kreme.

Slytherin: a glazed donut topped with chocolate and a swirl of green icing

Hufflepuff: an unglazed donut with yellow icing, chocolate drizzle, and cookie crunch with a brown butter toffee flavored custard filling

Ravenclaw: a glazed donut adorned in blueberry frosting and sprinkles. 

In addition, the famous Sorting Hat scored a chocolate icing donut flecked in gold stars and a fondant hat symbol. When you sink your teeth into the donut, the different-colored filling determines the house you belong to. However, it is sold separately.  

But the magic doesn’t stop there. If you’re a coffee lover, you can order an iced caramel Golden Snitch Latte, crowned in whipped cream, sprinkles, and a Biscoff cookie.

The Taste Test

I ordered all five flavored donuts and the latte. As soon as I walked in, the first thing I received was my large latte: a golden coffee liquid adorned with whipped cream rising to the plastic opening, sprinkles, and caramel dashed at the top. Online, you can customize your latte with different add-ons. Because I like caramel, I added an extra pump of espresso caramel syrup. The latte appeared delightfully sweet, appealing to my sweet tooth. After I sipped my drink, bitterness flooded my mouth. My preference for coffee is that it has sweetness to drown the bitterness. Despite finishing the drink, I believe it would’ve tasted better if it were sweeter, but that’s my preference. 

When I opened the maroon-colored donut box, all the desserts appeared to be checked out. Once I arrived home, I cut a piece of every donut and sampled them. From here, I rank my least favorite to most:

Slytherin tasted like a regular glazed donut with icing. It was nothing special except for the sugary icing. What is odd is that the kreme frosting added a touch of flavor that didn’t enhance it.

Ravenclaw was unremarkable in both appearance and taste. It’s simply a glazed donut with blueberry icing and sprinkles. Biting into it gave a dash of blueberry taste on my tongue. Nevertheless, I’d still choose this one over Slytherin.

The Sorting Hat’s icing tasted good, the chocolate tickling my taste buds. When I bit into it, blueberry mystery Kreme greeted me, assigning me to Ravenclaw. Although the chocolate icing tasted good, I didn’t care for the taste of the mystery kreme.

Gryffindor was sweet, the cookie butter kreme complementing the icing and Biscoff cookie. The hint of spiced cinnamon and the sweet icing made it a flavorful taste. All the flavors mixed wonderfully, evoking warmth and coziness with each bite.

Hufflepuff’s butter kreme blended perfectly with the icing, melting in my mouth. Every bite was rich, sweet, buttery, with a hint of caramel goodness, making me crave more. This satisfied my sweet tooth, and I ended up eating the entire donut. It was easily crowned my favorite.

Would I Buy This Again?

I truly enjoyed the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor donuts—their sweetness, combined with the icing, made for a tasty combination. I’m not one for cream-filled donuts but these were delectable. Slytherin and Ravenclaw didn’t stand out to me in both appearance and flavor, both tasting like a regular donut with sugary icing. Furthermore, I wasn’t too much of a fan of the Sorting Hat’s Kreme filling. I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase these donuts, even my favorites, as they’re just regular donuts with extra sugar.  After my taste test, I ended up taking a nap. I would advise caution if you have a sensitivity to sugar. But fellow Potterheads and donut fans, don’t let my opinion prevent you from tasting these treats.

The Hogwarts magic may fade quickly, but for now these donuts bring a sweet dose of wizardry to Muggles everywhere. Whether the Sorting Hat crowns you Gryffindor or your sweet tooth pledges allegiance to Hufflepuff, one thing is certain: these treats disappear faster than a game of Quidditch. Best grab yours before they vanish.
