Zendaya’s The Drama Premiere Dress Is a Modern Take on ‘Something Old, Something New’
Zendaya’s signature method dressing was taken to new heights at the L.A. premiere of the upcoming A24 film The Drama.
In the film, the actress portrays Emma Harwood, a fragile yet labile bride who begins to unravel in the week leading up to her wedding—and, following the old tradition, “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” Zendaya arrived on the carpet in a gown we’ve seen before.
Diving deep into the archives, she pulled out her silky white Vivienne Westwood gown, which she originally wore to the 2015 Academy Awards.
“This something old is from a very important look in my red carpet history, but I wore this look to the Oscars when I was 18 years old…It was a very important moment for me, for my family, for my community, and it just felt right to bring it back out, and it happened to also be a wedding dress, so it was meant to be,” she told Access Hollywood.
While it marked just the first look of the press tour, she hinted at a continuation of “something new, something borrowed, something blue.”
“So this is my something old, and we’ll see as the press tours go on,” she teased.
As we know, Zendaya is no stranger to method dressing, and this gown just adds to her extensive, successful lookbook. Back in 2024 at the NYC premiere of Dune: Part Two, the actress donned a Stéphane Rolland Couture gown, in which the cutouts at the chest and hips mimicked the idea of dunes.
Whether she’s being literal or leaving it to our interpretation, her looks, with the help of stylist Law Roach, never stand alone; they always push the story beyond the screen.
With The Drama just kicking off its press run, if her track record is anything to go by, the looks ahead will keep blurring the line between character and celebrity, one intentional, scene-stealing detail at a time.
The Drama hits theaters on April 3. Check out the trailer below.
