One of the most beloved couples to come out of ‘Love Island USA’ has reportedly reached the end of the road.

Season 7 runners-up Olandria Carthen and Nic Vansteenberghe, known affectionately to fans as Nicolandria, have broken up roughly a year after leaving the Fiji villa together. People was first to report the news, which has since been confirmed by multiple outlets.

What a Source Says Happened

The explanation offered is a familiar one for anyone who has tried to build a relationship across two cities and two demanding calendars.

“The distance between them and their busy schedules made it challenging to maintain their connection,” a source told People.

The logistics were genuinely difficult. Vansteenberghe has spent the past year building a DJ career out of Florida, playing club sets most nights of the week, a schedule he acknowledged in a conversation with the Peacock Blog earlier this year, noting simply that DJing is enormously time consuming. Carthen, meanwhile, has been based in Houston while her own profile expanded rapidly, with fashion weeks, red carpets and brand work filling her calendar.

They Are Staying Friends

What lifts the news above the usual breakup headline is the warmth of what followed.

“They still remain close friends,” the source continued. “They share a deep love and respect for each other and will always support one another whenever possible.”

It is a graceful ending, and a rare one in a genre that tends to produce considerably messier ones.

A Season 7 Slow Burn

For anyone who watched, their story was one of the more satisfying arcs of the season. Both entered the villa on day one, and for most of the summer their paths ran alongside each other rather than together, each of them exploring other connections. It was only in the final week that they coupled up, sharing a kiss that shifted their dynamic from friends to something else entirely.

They finished as runners-up behind Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales when the season concluded in July 2025, but they left with something arguably more durable: a fanbase that adopted them wholesale and gave them a name of their own.

Carthen was candid, in the months that followed, about how strange it could be to conduct a relationship under that much scrutiny, and about wanting to keep parts of their life to themselves rather than perform it online.

For now, both appear focused on the careers they have each been building at speed. Wishing them well in whatever comes next.
