Two Women Are Dead After A Possible Terrorist Attack In France

French interior minister Gerard Collomb is not ready to label the tragic event as a terrorist attack yet.

“It might be a terrorist act, but at this point we can’t say so with certainty, so I prefer to wait and see,” Collomb said in an official statement.

The attack took place at the Marseille train station yesterday afternoon. The attacker had a knife, which he used to fatally stab one woman and slit the throat of another. The women were cousins, meeting up to celebrate one of their birthdays. The man was shot dead by French soldiers before he could do further harm to other bystanders.

That evening, Amaq, an Islamic State news group, released a statement claiming that the attack was made on the behalf of an Isis supporter. It is rumored that the man stated “Allahu Akbar” before he carried out the attack.

Today, Collomb spoke to the public once more, announcing that this past Saturday the attacker had been detained for shoplifting. While he had used numerous fake identities in the past for petty crimes, he was never on a French watch list for terrorism.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those in France as they mourn those lost in this attack.
