Bethenny Frankel Lends a Helping Hand in Puerto Rico

Hurricane Maria tore through the US territory over 2 weeks ago, and recovery efforts are still moving at a snail’s pace.

Over 50% of residents are without safe drinking water, and 95% of Puerto Ricans are still without power, as almost all 2,400 miles of transmission lines were destroyed. As of right now, Puerto Ricans are sitting ducks waiting for the aid it is in dire of need of.

“Real Housewives of New York City” star Bethenny Frankel answered the call for help. Through her organization, B. Strong Charity, Frankel was able to gather over 20,000 pounds of water, food, medical supplies, diapers, and much more. She then chartered four planes to carry the supplies to the island in need, where she assisted in recovery efforts and the distribution of donations.

Frankel referred to Puerto Rico as the “forgotten island,” which she could not be more right about. The star took to her Instagram to show followers a picture of an interior part of Puerto Rico, which had not received any relief before she and her team arrived.

She posted another photo later on, standing by a pile of rubble left behind by the tropical storm. She wrote, “people are starving, without proper medication and living in mud and debris. Babies are being washed in the streets. People grabbing at the trucks for anything they can find to help their families. These people need your help.”

After all the supplies had been distributed, and the planes sat empty, Frankel’s efforts continued. She loaded the four planes with cancer patients and those in need of medical assistance to be taken back to the states for treatment. This was a great help in itself, as Dr. Ubaldo Santiago, director of emergency services at some of the 14 hospitals still in operation, said many were still running on generators and struggling.

We can only begin to imagine the great impact Bethenny had on those in Puerto Rico while she was there, and in the coming months as relief efforts continue. If you would like to assist Frankel in her charity’s efforts, click here.
