Teen with Alopecia Looks Stunning in Senior Photos
6.8 million people in the United States have alopecia, an autoimmune skin disease in which hair loss is the main symptom.Senior year comes with many exciting milestones- applying to college, prom, and senior photo sessions. For a teen with alopecia though, it can be difficult to go about this time of their life without fear of what others may think. However, senior Madisyn Babcock was not going to let the disease steal her happiness in a year that should be filled with joy and celebration.
The 17 year old, who told Yahoo Lifestyle, “I usually wear head covers due to the bald spots,” took a huge leap of courage when she decided not to cover her head with a scarf for her photos, but instead had her mother cover her head with beautifully painted wildflowers.
Babcock chose the flowers as she said, “I feel I’ve really blossomed into the person I’m supposed to be.”

“I felt kind of vulnerable being shot on camera while I was completely bald for the first time,” Madisyn told TODAY Style. But she realized this photo shoot, which should have been all about her, was about something bigger than herself- she wanted every person suffering from their disease to realize the beauty they hold. This selfless act has turned into an overnight sensation, as social media has blown up with support for Madisyn and her brave decision.
