Dua Lipa Apologizes for Using Racial Slur in 2014 Cover

The English Pop star used a racial slur and has come forward to say sorry. The “New Rules” singer Dua Lipa has come forward on her own accord and has apologized for using the N-word during a performance four years ago. She has been engulfed in this controversy after a cover resurfaced on YouTube at the beginning of the New Year.

Lipa’s cover “Smoke, Drink, Break Up” by Mila J  from 2014 features the chart-topper muttering the racial slur on the track- regardless of the distorted audio. She can be heard singing “So I roll me swisha, pour me some liquor before we start to bicker and calling each other out our names like plenty bitches and n—–.”

After its posting, Lipa took to Twitter and addressed her 1.33 million followers surrounding the incident. Stating that she “never meant to offend or upset anyone,” the singer continues to stir up trouble and cause a divide.

The Twitterverse is split amongst those who forgive her, and those who are outraged that it ever happened. From those who acknowledge this notion as a sign of growth, they appreciate her coming forward. Meanwhile, the other side of the spectrum has chosen to steer clear of anything from the “Blow Your Mind” singer.
