In this movie, directed by Babak Najafi, Taraji P. Henson is Mary, a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned around when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad.

Taraji is most commonly known for her role as Cookie Lyon on “Empire.” Her other roles have included Katherine in “Hidden Figures” and Queenie in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Hensen has been a great role model as a strong female character and it is amazing to see that role proceed in this movie as well. The new female empowerment movie, “Proud Mary,” has not been getting nearly enough recognition lately. Many have stated that black films don’t get the same marketing budget as other films with white lead actors. That’s not stopping us from heading out to see a bad ass chick flick full of #BlackGirlMagic.

Henson headlines a predominantly Black cast featuring legendary actor Danny Glover as a crime boss and Mary’s employer Benny, Billy Brown (“How to Get Away with Murder”) as Benny’s hitman son Tom and Margaret Avery (“Being Mary Jane”) as Tom’s wife.
