Halsey Reads “A Story Like Mine” Poem at #WomensMarch2018 in NYC
After marching in Washington, D.C. for the first, she returned to give a speech in New York City the second time around.
Halsey shares an emotional poem before thousands in New York City. Her poem “A Story Like Mine” shares personal experiences of her own and of those around her. With trigger warnings of rape and assault, the “Bad At Love” singer addresses a variety of issues that have become part of the everyday discourse.
However, she doesn’t stop there. She references the Olympians who spoke out against Team USA Dr. Larry Nassar and declares the need for truth and empathy over compliance.
Halsey reads, “It’s 2018 and I’ve realized that nobody is safe as long as she is alive, and every friend I know has a story like mine. And the world tells me that we should take it as a compliment.”
Exposing the truths and terrors seen in the lives of women worldwide, the video went viral and Halsey became overwhelmed with responses from thousands who applauded her courage and were moved by her words.
I’m truly humbled and overwhelmed by the support I’ve gotten in the past day. Im comforted and saddened by all who can relate. We are in this together.

Later on Instagram, Halsey penned, “The night before the march I penned this poem at 2 in the morning and the words spilled out of me like white water rushing down a river bend. I didn’t realize how emotional it would be for me to speak my truth but it was. And I’m so happy I did it.”
And we are too Halsey, thank you.
