The “Humble” rap artist was one of the big winners of the Grammy evening and opened the show with a much-needed political performance.

Lamar took home five Grammys last night, which included Best Rap Album for his album DAMN. The show opened with Kendrick’s performance that also included some commentary from comedian Dave Chappelle. His performance received a standing ovation from the crowd and a lot of praise from everyone watching at home.

Chappelle’s comedic interjections included him saying, “Hi, I’m Dave Chappelle. And I just wanted to remind the audience that the only thing more frightening than watching a black man being honest in America is being an honest black man in America.”

The Compton rapper was also joined by U2 during his performance. The entire performance consisted of a “satire by Kendrick Lamar” and dancers dressed in military-wear performing their hearts out.

Lamar also took home the Grammy for Best Rap Sung/Performance for his song “Loyalty” featuring Rihanna.
