‘Selfie Kid’ Ryan McKenna Appears on Ellen and Receives a Ton of Surprises

The 13 year-old Super Bowl “Selfie Kid” who took a selfie with Justin Timberlake during his halftime performance stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday Feb. 9.

From Scituate, MA, Ryan had his first in-studio interview and chatted with Ellen about his Super Bowl experience. He explained how his dad surprised him with tickets two weeks before the championship game and was not expecting to have a moment with JT during the halftime performance.

The “Selfie Kid” mentioned how they were told that they were sitting in good sections but did not realize why until Justin ended up in the stands with the crowd. Ryan revealed how he had to move through the crowd in order to be near Timberlake as he was walking up the aisle and revealed exactly what was distracting him on his phone, which led to the hilarious memes on social media.

During their conversation, Ellen surprises Ryan with a phone call from Justin Timberlake. They talked about Justin’s performance, which included his secret signal to Ellen, and how he ended up in the crowd.

Justin further explains how he wants to properly meet Ryan and also surprises him and his family with tickets to his Man of the Woods tour when he performs in Boston. Ellen extends the surprise by giving Ryan and his family the full VIP experience to a New England Patriots home game next season that includes four tickets to a game and four pre-game field passes courtesy of the NFL.
