Black Panther Surpasses $1 Billion Mark at Box Office
The film, which has only been out for less than a month, has just smashed a box-office record.
This past Friday, Disney confirmed that the film has passed the $1 billion mark globally according to its ticket sale estimate.
As senior entertainment research analyst, Jeff Bock said in an interview for The New York Times, “One by one, these unwritten Hollywood rules about what audiences supposedly will and will not support are falling by the wayside. I think about it like a wall crumbling. In terms of Black Panther, no studio can say again, ‘Oh, black movies don’t travel, overseas interest will be minimal.'”
The film is also the ninth domestically highest-grossing film of all time and the fifth Marvel movie to make it past a billion dollars in sales, thus setting a very high standard for the film’s sequel to meet.
