Producers of ‘The Crown’ Admit Claire Foy Was Paid Less Than Costar
Fans were not happy when they learned that Claire Foy, the lead actress in “The Crown,” was paid less than her male counterpart during the first two seasons of the show.
During the INTV Conference in Jerusalem Tuesday, two producers of the hit Netflix show admitted that Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth II, was paid less than Matt Smith, who played Prince Philip. Unsurprisingly, fans were outraged after hearing this.
You know, I get it in theory, from the casting stage: Matt Smith was famous, Foy wasn’t. But she carried that show; she got the noms and wins. You equalize that shit for Season 2. Saying “Whoops! From now on it’ll be equal” still pisses on the groundwork Claire Foy laid. -H https://t.co/pkalr608SO

Moving forward, producers Suzanne Mackie and Andy Harries promised equal pay on the show. “Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen,” said Mackie. Unfortunately, this will not affect Foy, as she is being replaced by Olivia Colman for the third season of the series.
