Miley Cyrus Is Facing a $300 Million Dollar Lawsuit
According to Forbes, Jamaican artist Michael May wants compensation as well as the discontinuation of further sales and performances of Cyrus’ song “We Can’t Stop.”
Cyrus is being accused of infringing on May’s reggae song “We Run Things.” According to May, the chorus “We run things / Things don’t run we” in “We Can’t Stop” is too similar to his line “We run things / Things no run we.” May is also suing producers Theron Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Mike Williams, Cyrus’ manager Laddy Rudolph, Sony Music, and RCA records.
The suit claims that the success of the song benefited from his song’s lyrics that were allegedly stolen. May even cites a 2015 interview with Theron Thomas where he mentions how Caribbean culture influences his music.
The case is currently pending.
