Kendrick Lamar Wins Pulitzer Prize in Music
He is the first rapper to earn this reward, winning it for his album DAMN.
The award usually goes to classical or jazz artists.
The Pulitzer Prize website described the album as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
