‘Jane the Virgin’ to End After Season 5
The fifth season of the CW’s hit series, Jane the Virgin, will be its last.
Earlier this month, Variety reported that Jane the Virgin’s lead actress and co-executive producer, Gina Rodriguez hinted at the fate of the show while speaking at the Create & Cultivate and Fossil Women To Watch pop up in Austin, Texas.
When discussing her directorial debut of the “highest-rated” episode in season four of Jane the Virgin, Rodriguez said it was “the most incredible experience” and that she plans to “do more [directing] next year — in our final season.”
Earlier this week, the CW delivered the final blow to diehard fans of the America Telenovela with the announcement of its schedule for the 2018-2019 season.
Jane the Virgin, along with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie, will wrap up its story in the upcoming season.
Fans of the critically acclaimed series may have hoped the show would never end, but executive producer and showrunner, Jennie Snyder Urman, knew this day would come.
In an interview with The New York Times, Urman explained that her initial plan was to end Jane the Virgin after four seasons, but the show had enough material for one more. “When I first thought about the show, I thought it would run four years, and then after the second year, I thought, ‘We have enough to take us through five seasons.’”
With the end now in sight, the audience can expect the story to come full circle. It unclear if Jane is #teamrafael or #teammichael, but Urman says there will be weddings in the final season. “[Telenovelas] will often build to a wedding, and we have telenovelas inside of telenovelas. The most important thing I will say is, we’re not going to end on a cliffhanger. We’re going to close things up.”
