Lili Reinhart Opens up About Her Struggle with Cystic Acne
Lili Reinhart has cystic acne, but her breakouts don’t define her.
Riverdale actress, Lili Reinhart, took to her Instagram story for “adult acne story time.”
In a series of posts, the 21-year-old actress shared her long history with cystic acne, and the impact it has had on her self-esteem. Reinhart hopes that sharing her story will help to one day normalize her skin so that people “will be able to feel okay about their skin.”
After a long photo shoot with a cystic breakout, Reinhart got candid with her followers about the experience and the challenge of remaining confident when your insecurities are on display.
“I have a cystic breakout on my forehead currently. And I had to do a photo shoot all day long. I’ve had cystic acne since I was 12. And it has caused major self-esteem issues ever since,” Reinhart wrote. “I had to put my biggest insecurity on display. There was nowhere to hide. 20+ people were studying my face on the camera monitor at any given time during the 11-hour shoot. And all I could think about when I was in front of the camera were the pimples on my forehead.”
Riverdale‘s Betty Cooper went on to share that she texted her mom while she was feeling insecure because the “breakouts shatter [her] confidence every time they appear.”
While Reinhart isn’t sure if she’ll ever be able to accept her skin, she is hopeful that someday she can feel beautiful, even with a breakout.
Sharing a barefaced photo of herself, Reinhart urged anyone “who feels embarrassed or ashamed by breakouts” to share their story because “we have each other so let’s get through this acne experience together.”
