ASOS Sells Wheelchair User-Friendly Jumpsuit

ASOS is stepping up their game with a “wheelchair-friendly” piece.

ASOS recently came out with clothing that was manufactured specifically with wheelchair users in mind. Chloe Ball-Hopkins is a Paralympic athlete for Team Great Britain and reporter for BBC Bristol Sport. She collaborated with the fashion retailer to create the tie dye all in one jumpsuit. It is fully waterproof, adjustable, jersey lined and retails for $64 USD on the ASOS website.

Ball-Hopkins posted via Twitter her collaboration announcement: “Not just for people like me in a chair but for anyone. It’s about making fashion accessible. So what should be next?”

A Twitter user wondered and respectfully asked why special clothing was necessary and what was different about the particular item. Chloe Ball-Hopkins replied with an explanation of the smart design.

My thinking was the zip round the waist to make it a top&bottom as well is easier to get in & out of, cuffed ankles to allow for shorter people (& easier for wellies) & top waterproof pocket for phone/medical stuff. The key is it's fashion that's accessible, not for disabled 😊

Fans of the brand have commended the company for being more considerate of people with disabilities than other fashion marketplaces. More specifically, they have been praised for “diversity without tokenism,” as Chloe and the other model are photographed in a typical model setting.

They also are recognized for using unedited photos of models, as well as displaying the same clothes on people of different sizes.
