Beyoncé and Jay Z to Donate $1 Million to Scholarship Program

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter are already well known for their philanthropy. After pulling in $150 million, according to Billboard, from their most recent tour, they are planning on helping 11 students through their scholarship program.

The couple announced on Saturday that more than $1 million from ticket sales would be given to these 11 students to contribute to their higher education. The Shawn Carter Foundation and the BeyGOOD Initiative will award the students with $100,000 each toward their expenses throughout their enrollment in any college or university. The lucky students will be chosen by the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of America in Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Arlington, New Orleans, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Seattle. The Boy’s and Girl’s Club of America will choose each student by financial need and academic merit during the show in their city.

This is not the first time Beyoncé and Jay-Z have rewarded Students with scholarship money. In April the couple rewarded four students with $100,000 at Historically Black Colleges/ Universities. This gave each student around $25,000 towards their undergraduate studies.
