After gaining media attention, Ashley Frangipane, Halsey, then 19, was signed to Astralwerk record label where she began working on her album.

3 years ago today I released BADLANDS! My debut album! A 16 track interactive concept record I was 19 years old when I penned and 20 years old when I released. In its first week it debuted at #2 on the billboard charts with 115,000 adjusted copies. With NO features (and no success at radio). Pitchfork gave it a whopping 4.9/10 (lol), the RIAA certified BADLANDS Platinum with 4 Gold singles and 4 Platinum singles, and it took me across the globe on my very first sold out tour that reached 5 continents. This is the moment my life would change forever and I would fall in love with storytelling unlike I had ever experienced before. And I fell in love with so many of you who left permanent fingerprints on the surface of my heart. If you visited BADLANDS, I say thank you. This was a moment in time that stood still unlike any other. I hope to continue world building and creating places where only you and I can go off and hide. Don’t worry, they don’t need to understand. Keep Running.

During its debut, Badlands reached platinum status with four gold singles and four platinum singles. It stayed on Billboard’s Top 100 for 63 weeks. The album also sparked a world tour that sold out quickly. Reaching places such as Madison Square Gardens, Halsey showed no signs of slowing down.

On Tuesday, the artist took to Twitter to chat with fans about the album and answer questions that have been puzzling their minds since it’s release. Many spent time cherishing and reminiscing about their feelings about the story.
