Emmy Rossum Will Be Leaving Showtime’s ‘Shameless’

After nine seasons, Emmy Rossum has announced her departure from Showtime’s hit show, Shameless…and the internet is not taking the news well.

The actress stars as lead role, Fiona Gallagher—the eldest sister and maternal figure of the dysfunctional Gallagher family, scraping by in the South Side of Chicago. Over the past nine seasons, fans have grew to love Rossum’s character, as she raised her younger siblings, and navigated between jobs and love interests.

Sadly, in a heartfelt Facebook post, Rossum announced that she will not be returning to the show.

While the internet was disheartened by the news of Rossum’s departure, her  message to the show left the Shameless fan-base with nothing but love for the star. The actress comforts viewers by advising them to “try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”

Even without the beloved Fiona, hopefully the Gallagher story will still continue to be told.
