Meghan Markle Collaborates on Cookbook for Charity
The Duchess embarked on her first solo charity venture, creating a comfort food community cookbook. The cookbook entitled, “Together: Our Community Cookbook,” will showcase over 50 recipes from women who were affected by the 2017 fire that destroyed Kensington’s Grenfell Tower, taking 72 lives. This project began last year in West London when women would gather at the Al-Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, to prepare food for their family, friends, and other members of their town. Gathering together to prepare food and share stories became a healing tradition for the local women, which led to the opening of the Hubb Community Kitchen.
Markle made her first visit to the inspiring community center in January and has made several visits since then. All proceeds of “Together: Our Community Cookbook” will go towards Hubb Community Kitchen.
Markle’s bestie Serena Williams took to Instagram to congratulate the Duchess by posting the cover of the cookbook captioned, “I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project ‘Together’ a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you.”
The Duchess wrote a heartfelt forward that is included in the cookbook, praising the women of Hubb Community Kitchen for their dedication to providing their family and neighbors with fresh food. The proceeds from the b0ok will allow for Hubb Community Kitchen to operate seven days a week and expand their outreach to other communities.
