For each Gala, Anna Wintour, the editor for Vogue, chooses a handful of celebrities to co-chair the event with her. Next year, Gaga will co-chair alongside Harry Styles and Serena Williams.
Next year’s Met Gala theme will be ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion.’ The theme was derived from the 1964 essay ‘Notes on Camp’ written by Susan Sontag. Wendy Yu, a curator responsible for the Costume Institute, described the theme as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration,” perfectly fitting for Gaga’s previous fashion statements.
Gaga recently starred in the musical film, A Star Is Born, with Bradley Cooper, receiving an overwhelmingly positive response for her performance. The singer’s role in the Gala is just one more thing to showcase all that Gaga can do.
The next Met Gala will premiere in the spring of 2019.
