Yara Shahidi Stars in New Film ‘The Sun Is Also A Star’
The star of Grown-ish enters a new role in Warner Bros film adaptation of The Sun Is Also A Star.
Yara Shahidi has had a year of success with Freeform hit show Grown-ish but Warner Bros new motion picture, The Sun Is Also A Star, will take her from sitcom TV to romantic movie lead. While this isn’t her first time on the big screen, it will be the first time as a lead character in a major motion picture. The film is based on New York Times #1 bestseller, The Sun Is Also A Star, a coming-of-age story about Natasha, a young Jamaican immigrant living in New York City on the verge of deportation who only believes in sciences and facts, and her new friend Daniel (Charles Melton), a local Korean teen that accepts destiny whilst agreeing to become a doctor. Written by Nicola Yoon, one of New York Times bestselling authors.
Warner Bros released the trailer for the film last week and since has already hit more than 6 million views on YouTube. The trailer begins with young Natasha asking, “What does America mean to you?” followed by childhood memories, a trip to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service and her first interaction with Daniel. While we don’t know the release date, we can anticipate the film to be a major hit. Check out the trailer below.
