Therapy Talks: Selena Gomez Takes Us into Her Private World

In her first substantial interview of the year, Selena Gomez went on Coach’s Dream It Real podcast to speak sincerely about remaining true to herself in the ever-changing climate of fame, therapy time, and why she does NOT like to be called “pretty’.

Selena began the interview in a true stride of her self-love and pride by saying she is not media trained, nor trained for the public relation wiles of interviewing. Regarding the idea of being herself, Gomez stated “I don’t really think that people know my heart. I don’t know how to be trained, like how on earth would somebody be training me to speak things?”

Selena may not be the first celebrity to inform the general public that she doesn’t appreciate her looks being valued over her heart and mind, but her stance is opening up a world for her fans to see that the superficial isn’t the important factor of existing:

“I don’t really appreciate people judging me on my looks or anything like that. I’m flattered when maybe guys are like, ‘you’re pretty.’ I am (flattered), but it’s just…I would just love someone to love me for the person that I am.”

She also touched on a topic that is empowering the young and old alike: Therapy. Selena admitted to therapy is a difficult thing to cope with, however, the benefits of it helping her through life and understanding her childhood are positive draws. She also touched on logging off of social media to help with her mindset:

“It is not that healthy to be on it all the time because I noticed with me, I got kind of depressed looking at these people who look beautiful and amazing, and it would just get me down a lot, so I just think taking breaks is really important.”

Selena touched on her “log off” in a post on her Instagram:

Ending her interview on Dream It Real, Selena seemed over the moon about her new album that is set to be released later this year, but also how excited she is to be able to spend time alone. She said, “I think I’m finally, finally, finally at the age where I love being alone.”

We applaud the want to be present to the moment, Selena! We all should strive to spread kindness and encouragement daily.
