Halima Aden Makes History in the Newest ‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’ Issue
This model is revolutionizing the magazine.
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine is known for its images of gorgeous models in swimsuits. However, there has never been a model with a hijab or burkini anywhere within the magazine, until now. The beautiful Halima Aden is officially making history as the first model to wear both a hijab and a burkini within the magazine. Halima posted her feature on Instagram and stated: “Don’t change yourself…change the game”. In her caption, she also included that her feature is “sending a message to my community and the world that women of all different backgrounds, looks, upbringings… can stand together and be celebrated.”
In the photograph, Halima wore a blue burkini with a turquoise hijab and looked absolutely stunning. The model is proving that anything really is possible and she is one of the many leaders that we need to help revolutionize our world for the better. We are also glad that Sports Illustrated Swimsuit took this step towards more diversity. We remember when the magazine featured Ashley Graham as the first plus-size model to grace their cover so it means a lot that such a renowned magazine is continuing to improve its inclusiveness. Halima’s feature will open doors for so many other women and we hope that we can continue to see all kinds of women being represented.
