Lana Del Rey Reminds Us of Summertime

Lana Del Rey teased everyone with summertime a few days ago—both the season and the song, posting a piece of her upcoming cover of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time” on Instagram.

“Summertime, and the living’s easy”: you may know this line as the opening to the 1930’s Gershwin jazz standard, “Summertime”—or from Sublime’s beloved reggae/ska version,”Doin’ Time.” Sublime’s version alludes to the jazz classic but branches off with punk-influenced lyrics of a darker nature than its predecessor. Mixed with Lana Del Rey’s sultry, soulful, laid-back style, it will probably be epic.
