Jay-Z Joining the NFL as an Entertainment Strategist
Awarding winning rapper Jay-Z has officially joined forces with The National Football League as a musical consultant. His record label “Roc Nation” will be consulting on the NFL’s musical aspects including the Superbowl. This partnership has sparked controversy due to the rapper’s statements on the NFL’s treatment former American football quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who was suspended by the league for taking a knee during the National Anthem in support of his political activism regarding police brutality and racism. Though Kaepernick was not the only player to take a knee for injustice, he was the only athlete banned from the league for this offense, hence the outrage over the suspension.
Many have spoken out against the collaboration stating Jay-Z is exploiting the movement for financial benefit. The NAACP Recipient has spoken out against alternative motive allegations speaking to the New York Times stating “They were willing to do some things, to make some changes, that we can do some good.” The musician insists making the NFL’s musical platform more inclusive and I’m sure we’re all excited to see how he does it.
