Billy Porter Set to Star as Fairy Godmother in Live-Action ‘Cinderella’
Star of Pose, Billy Porter is reportedly set to act with Camila Cabello in a new live-action take on the classic Cinderella.
Billy Porter is finally getting the accolades he deserves and now on the heels of his cameo on Saturday Night Live. It’s been confirmed that the Pose star will be playing the Fairy Godmother in the live-action reimagining of Cinderella produced by Sony Pictures, also starring Camila Cabello. Saturday, Porter made the announcement during a panel at the 20th Annual New Yorker Festival. Shortly after the Porter announcement, news came that Broadway veteran, Idina Menzel, is also in talks to play the role of the Evil Stepmother.

Although not much has been shared about the updated plot for this production, the story is reportedly a modern re-imagining of the classic children’s fairytale in which an orphaned girl falls in love with a prince, loses a glass slipper and ultimately becomes a princess. With the cast being more inclusive and diverse we hope to see a different adaptation and of course, new music.

The Tony Award winner made history when he was nominated for, and won, Best Actor in a Drama and we all are excited to see how Porter brings his talents to the big screen. Though no release date for the film, the diversity of the announced cast already has us anticipating its arrival.
