Watch the New Trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’
The new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker pulls emotions from a lot of fans.
The trailer for the latest installment in the Disney franchise premiered Sunday during a football game on ESPN. It was marked by touching moments involving longtime robot sidekick C-3PO and the late actress Carrie Fisher, who played General Leia Organa and whose 63rd birthday would have been Monday.

While the trailer tease focuses on a battle between lightsaber-wielding Rey played by Daisy Ridley and Kylo Ren played by Adam Driver, tears likely spilled when, in another scene, C-3PO is depicted “taking one last look … at my friends” on the bridge of the Millennium Falcon as R2-D2 totters next to him. Another heart-touching scene involves a quick glimpse of Rey getting a hug from Leia, a scene that uses previously-unseen footage of Fisher, who died in Dec. 2016.

Towards the final scene in the trailer and likely the most poignant is Mark Hamill’s voiceover declaring “The Force will be with you,” which elicits a haunting response from Fisher’s: “Always.” The film will debut on Dec. 20. Make sure you attend to see what may be the final film in the multi-billion dollar franchise and the final never before seen scenes of the beloved Carrie Fisher.
