Netflix Will Now Allow Users to Speed Through Films

Netflix has been subject to criticism after a new update allows users to watch films at a faster speed.

According to an article by BBC News, “The function, which is still on trial, allows mobile users to watch its content at various different speeds. Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles, and Knocked Up‘s Judd Apatow, were among those who tweeted their concerns. Apatow, also the creator of the Netflix series Lovesaid the function was “ridiculous and insulting”.

The new feature allows users to play their favorite shows up to one-and-a-half times faster. This idea came about when media users sped up podcasts. Some believe that it may ruin the authenticity of a show, while others believe that it offers viewers a customized experience.

A Netflix spokesperson told the website, Android Police, that “We’re always experimenting with new ways to help members use Netflix. This test makes it possible to vary the speed at which people watch shows on their mobiles. As with any test, it may not become a permanent feature on Netflix”.
