Celebrities are donating to emergency services to aid the battle against bushfires in Australia.

Recently, the news has been filled with the tragic bushfires happening in Australia. Australia has been experiencing record-breaking high temperatures and a severe drought which is causing these bushfires. The bushfires have been burning since September and have intensified since then. More than 15.6 million acres have been burned since the start of the fires.

Below are some celebrities that are donating money and using their platforms to encourage others to do the same to stop this tragedy from continuing.

On Jan. 4, Nicole Kidman posted a picture on Instagram stating that she and her husband Keith Urban donated $500,000 towards the NSW Rural Fire Service. The photo included different ways for other people to show their support and donate.

Selena Gomez pledged $5 million to bushfire relief. She shared a link on Twitter that informed people on how they can help. In the same tweet, she said she is “praying for everyone affected and all of the first responders.”

On January 3rd, comedian Celeste Barber set up a Facebook fundraiser to help the NSW Rural Fire Service. Almost 1 million people have donated to the cause, raising over $26 million.

On Instagram, Shailene Woodley quoted Celeste Barber’s mother-in-law saying, “This is Australia’s war,” and encouraged people to donate.
