See Queen Elizabeth’s Formal Statement on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Shuttershock

After the controversy surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement, the Queen decided to release a formal statement.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided it was in their best interest to split up their time between Canada and the UK. Many residents of the UK were not happy after this announcement and wanted to know what the Queen thought of all of this.

The Queen met with her son, Prince Charles; the heir to the throne and his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, to discuss what arrangements can be made. While long-term arrangements are still in the works, the Queen has announced that she is supportive of their decision and will make it work.

In the statement, the Queen stated that they will have “a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.” She does admit she would rather they remain full-time members of the Royal Family but “understands their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

Not everyone was happy with this response and still demanded more answers. They want to know who will pay for the couple’s upkeep, if they will be financially independent or not, or if they will even be allowed to keep their titles. Others are more understanding of the stress the couple must be under as part of the royal family. Supporters are happy Harry and Meghan are putting themselves and their love first.

For now, the Queen is supporting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision, but there will be more permanent decisions to come in the near future about the whole situation.
