Lovato received a standing ovation for her first performance in over a year in half, with the artist hauntingly singing lyrics written only days before her overdose in July 2018.
In a recent interview on New Music Daily on Apple Music’s Beats 1, she admitted that while she thought she was fine at the time, the lyrics were really “a cry for help” that proved that she wasn’t.
“I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt I was okay, but clearly I wasn’t,” Lovato said. “I even listen back to it and I’m like, ‘Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself.’”
Lovato is set to continue with her successful comeback, with an appearance singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” before next Sunday’s Super Bowl. If you enjoyed Lovato’s emotional performance, be sure to download and listen “Anyone” which is out now.
